Save the Date and Plan to Join us for: 2nd Annual Maine Golf Day
June 7, 2019 at the Hall of Flags in the State House from 8:00am - 2:00pm As many of you are aware Golf Maine has engaged the services of a lobbyist for the past couple years to help us navigate the legislative process in Augusta. Issues that clearly impact the golf industry such as pesticide bans, clean water usage, taxation and others continue to appear and we seem to be swimming upstream in our efforts to deal with them effectively. By the time we find out that legislation is being introduced it is extremely hard to mobilize. Adding to that is that golf is a vastly underrated component of both the tourism economy AND the overall economy in Maine. The goals of the Maine Golf Day are to make meaningful connections with legislators and to educate them on the importance of a strong and vital golf industry. Part of our success will be to flood the Hall of Flags with people employed by golf. This is not simply an event for Golf Maine members and we need your help to make the point that golf needs to be respected here as a force. Can you or someone on your staff commit to being there from 8-11 or 11-2? If you can be involved -- please contact Peter Webber ([email protected]) or by phone at (877) 553-4653. This event is building on momentum made during our 2017 State event and the 2018 National Golf Day held in Washington, DC on April 25, 2018. For information on National Golf Day take a look at this video created by GCSAA from 2017. 2019 NGD will be held on May 1, 2019. Both Peter Webber and David Pollard (Spring Meadows Golf Club) will be attending the 2019 National Golf Day. They are great representatives for the golf industry in Maine and will share the challenges faced by our course owners and operators.
